Learning to Float

This week has been an experiment week. Last week I first started learning about Ableton. This week I continued with this by downloading the program and beginning to experiment. I started to play around with the program with some compositions for a game I am involved in for another class. The design is a fairytale-esque game. I work through patching my MIDI keyboard (Casio CTK-551) through my MIDI-USB cable (Roland UM-ONE) using information from the videos I watched last week. To experiment I trialled with percussion (timpani), chordal sounds (violin), synthesiser (vocal sample) and melodic lines (concert flute and oboe). I composed a total of four themes to try various effects on the instruments and MIDI data (can be found under music player). This led to further experimentation the following day for a scratch track for my current project.

This week has also consisted of learning about a Neve Custom 75 and a YAMAHA CL5. I first read into the Neve which was interesting the information about the creation of mixing multiple elements of other consoles to create this one console.

The CL5 was interesting as it is a digital console which can be user defined with every button and fader. This made it a little more difficult to learn as I had to be aware of what the buttons and channels had been defined as. I also had to learn DANTE which is an ethernet cable system this allows to connect to other consoles and to ease of re-routing of packs for musicians. With a little bit of trial and error over the weekend I managed to work through monitors without too many issues.
